Revision Objectives

• Remember the letter "k" and its sound /k/
• Say the words king, kangaroo, kiwi and koala
• Repeat the sentence "A king and a friendly kangaroo are together in a castle!"
• Trace the letter "k" correctly: long line down, slant in, slant out

Revision Activity 1: King Says

Time: 6 minutes

• One learner wears a paper crown and is the king
• The teacher whispers an action to the king: hop like a kangaroo, hug a tree like a koala, wave like a king
• The king says "King says hop!" and everyone does it while saying the word (kangaroo, koala, king)
• Change the king two or three times

Revision Activity 2: Kangaroo Hop to k

Time: 7 minutes

• Put letter cards on the floor: k, j, i, a
• The teacher says "/k/!" Learners hop like kangaroos to the "k" card
• Then show a picture card (king, kangaroo, kiwi, koala). Learners say the word and hop once
• Add a card that is not "k" (for example, jam). Learners stand still

Revision Activity 3: Say the Castle Picture

Time: 5 minutes

• Open textbook page 30
• Point to the king and the kangaroo. Learners say the words
• Say the speech bubble together in chunks:
  • "A king"
  • "and a friendly kangaroo"
  • "are together in a castle!"
• Ask: "Is the kangaroo friendly?" (yes) "Where are they?" (in a castle)

Revision Activity 4: Key Feel and Find

Time: 5 minutes

• Put a real key in a cloth bag
• Each learner feels inside, finds the key and says "/k/, key!"
• Then hunt for three /k/ things in the room, line them up and count them together (Little Thinkers)

Revision Activity 5: Long Line, In, Out

Time: 7 minutes

• Draw a giant "k" in the air together: "Long line down. Lift. In. Out."
• Make a "k" with the body: stand straight like the long line, put one arm and one leg out at a slant
• Trace one row of dotted "k" letters on a practice sheet with a pencil

Key Points to Remember

• The letter is "k". Its sound is /k/, as in king, kangaroo, kiwi and koala
• A key and a kettle also start with the /k/ sound
• The sentence is: "A king and a friendly kangaroo are together in a castle!"
• To make "k": start at the top, long line down, lift the pencil, slant in to the middle, slant out to the bottom
