Subject: English | Class: Playgroup | Series: Skillford
For the parent or teacher: Read each instruction aloud to the child. The child points, circles, colours, traces and says. No reading or writing of words is expected.
Activity A: Say the Words
Point to each word and say it. The child repeats it and does one jump.
- jet
- jeep
- juice
- jam
- jacket
Activity B: Circle the Letter j
Say: "Find the letter j. Circle every j you see."

How many did you circle? Count together out loud.
Activity C: Match the Word to the Picture
Say each word. The child draws a line from the word to the correct picture (draw or stick simple pictures on the right).

Activity D: Colour the j Pictures
Say: "Colour the pictures that start with j."
- jet -- colour it blue
- jeep -- colour it green
- juice -- colour it orange
- jam -- colour it red
- jacket -- colour it brown
Ask the child to say each word before colouring.
Activity E: Count the Wheels
Look at the jeep on textbook page 28 together.
Say: "Point to each wheel you can see. Count them out loud."
Draw a circle for each wheel you counted:
Activity F: Trace the Letter j
Say the steps as the child traces: "Start at the dot. Down, down, below the line. Curl. Lift. Dot on top!"
Trace the big dotted j with a finger.
Trace the big dotted j with a crayon.
Trace one row of small dotted j letters with a pencil:

Activity G: Say the Sentence
Point to the picture on textbook page 28. Say the sentence in small parts. The child repeats each part.
"A blue plane and the little green jeep standing together at the airport."
Ask:
- What colour is the plane? (blue)
- What colour is the jeep? (green)
Well Done!
Colour a star when the child finishes:
- I can say the j sound.
- I can find the letter j.
- I can trace the letter j.
