Hello, little friends! Welcome back. Today we are going to meet a new letter. It is the letter w.

Look at the letter w. It looks like two little hills side by side. Can you say its name with me? w. Great!

The letter w makes a sound. Make your lips small and round, like you are blowing out a candle. Now say /w/. /w/, /w/, /w/. Let us wave our hands as we say it. /w/, /w/, /w/. Well done!

Now let us look at a big, happy picture. There is a girl in a garden. She is holding a red bucket.

Can you see a well? A well is a place where we get water. It has a rope and a bucket. Say it with me: well. /w/, /w/, well.

Look at all the big green fruits near the well. They are watermelons! Say it with me: watermelon. /w/, /w/, watermelon.

The girl is smiling. Let us listen to what the picture says. The girl is sitting near the well and watermelons.

Now let us look at three more pictures. Every one of them begins with w.

Here is a watermelon. It is green on the outside and red on the inside. It has little black seeds. Watermelon.

Here is a window. We look out of a window to see the sky and the trees. This window has blue curtains. Window.

Here is a whale. A whale is a very big animal that lives in the sea. This whale is blue and it is smiling. Whale.

Let us say them all together. Watermelon. Window. Whale. Very good!

Can you hear the /w/ at the start of each word? /w/, watermelon. /w/, window. /w/, whale.

Let us play a game. Put your hands up ready to wave. When you hear a w word, wave to me!

Whale. Wave! Well. Wave! Window. Wave! Watermelon. Wave! You are such good listeners.

Do you have a window in your room? Can you count the windows? One, two, maybe more. Now count the doors. Are there more windows or more doors?

Now it is time to write the letter w. First, let us draw it in the air with our finger.

Put your finger up high, at the top. Go down, slanting to the bottom. Now go up to the top. Now go down again to the bottom. And now go up to the top one last time.

Down, up, down, up. That is the letter w!

Let us do it again, slowly. Down, up, down, up. Brilliant!

When you trace w in your book, start at the little red dot. Hold your pencil gently, like a little bird's beak pinching it. Then go down, up, down, up.

Take your time. Follow the dots. If you go off the line, that is okay. Just try again.

After you trace, you can colour the watermelon picture. Use green for the outside, red for the inside, and black for the seeds.

Let us remember what we learned today.
