Revision Objectives

• Recall the letter "h" and its sound /h/
• Name the words horse, hen, hill and hut
• Say the sentence about the cute horse and the little hen
• Practise tracing the letter "h"

Revision Activity 1: Horse Gallop

Time: 5 minutes

• Children gallop on the spot like horses
• The teacher holds up the "h" card; children gallop and say /h/ /h/ /h/
• When the teacher holds up a different letter, the horses stop

Revision Activity 2: Hen Pecks

Time: 5 minutes

• Put the four picture cards on the floor: horse, hen, hill, hut
• Say a word; a child walks like a hen to the right card and "pecks" it
• Then hold up a card and the class says the word
• Stretch the first sound: "h-h-h-hut"

Revision Activity 3: Barn Sentence

Time: 5 minutes

• Open page 22 and point to the horse and the hen
• Say the sentence in parts, children echo:
  • "A cute horse"
  • "and a little hen"
  • "are eating their yummy food"
• Children pretend to munch on "yummy food"

Revision Activity 4: Air, Table, Paper

Time: 10 minutes

• Trace "h" in the air with a big arm
• Trace "h" on the table with one finger
• Trace "h" on page 23 with a pencil
• Say the stroke each time: "Tall line down, back up, and a hump"
• The teacher checks each child starts at the top

Revision Activity 5: Hat Pass

Time: 5 minutes

• Pass a hat round the circle (Little Explorers)
• Each child wears it for a moment and says /h/ for hat
• Then the child says one "h" word from the page: horse, hen, hill or hut

• To trace "h": start at the top, go straight down, go back up halfway, make a hump over and down
