Assessment Objectives

By the end of this lesson, children should be able to:

1. Point to the letter "g" when it is shown or named
2. Say the sound /g/
3. Name the pictures girl, guava, gate, gift and guitar
4. Repeat the sentence "The girl is eating delicious guava"
5. Trace the letter "g" starting at the red dot

All assessment is done by watching and listening. Children are not asked to read or write words.

Formative Assessment

1. Letter Spotting (During Day 1)

• Task: Show three letter cards (f, g, q). Ask: "Where is g?"
• Criteria: Child points to "g" without help
• Rating: Yes / With help / Not yet

2. Sound Check (During Day 1)

• Task: Hold up the "g" card. Ask: "What does g say?"
• Criteria: Child says a short, clear /g/
• Rating: Yes / With help / Not yet

3. Picture Naming (During Day 2)

• Task: Show the pictures girl, guava, gate, gift and guitar one at a time. Ask: "What is this?"
• Criteria: Child names at least 3 out of 5 pictures
• Rating: 5 named / 3-4 named / Needs practice

4. Sentence Repeat (During Day 2)

• Task: Say "The girl is eating delicious guava". Child repeats it.
• Criteria: Child says most of the sentence, including "girl" and "guava"
• Rating: Yes / Part of it / Not yet

5. Tracing Observation (During Day 3)

• Task: Child traces "g" on page 21
• Criteria:
  • Starts at the red dot
  • Makes the round part first
  • Goes down and curls the hook at the bottom
• Rating: Confident / Trying / Needs support

Summative Assessment

End-of-Lesson Check (one child at a time, 3-4 minutes)

Part A: Letter and Sound (2 marks)

1. Point to "g" on page 20. (1 mark)
2. Say the sound of "g". (1 mark)

Part B: Picture Words (5 marks)

• Name each picture: girl, guava, gate, gift, guitar (1 mark each)

Part C: Listen and Point (2 marks)

1. "Show me the gift." (1 mark)
2. "Show me the guitar." (1 mark)

Part D: Tracing (3 marks)

• Starts at the red dot (1 mark)
• Makes the round part (1 mark)
• Goes down with a hook (1 mark)

Total: 12 marks
