Video Script — Unit 2
My Home
Subject: English | Class: 2 | Series: Leeds (SNC 2020)
Hello, children! Welcome to today's lesson. Today we are going to learn about "My Home."
We will read a story about a boy named Ali who tells us about his home and his family. Let us begin.
Ali says: "I am Ali. This is my home. I have two brothers and a sister. We live in this home happily."
Ali's home is very beautiful. It has two bedrooms, one kitchen, two bathrooms, a sitting room, and a drawing room for guests.
Ali shares a room with his brothers and sister. The room has four beds and four chairs. There is a cupboard to keep their clothes. There is also a bookshelf to keep books, and a beautiful clock on the wall. They sit together and do their homework in this room.
The family watches television in the sitting room. They discuss many things there. Their parents guide them if they face difficulty about new things.
Ali and his siblings play together and put their toys at the proper place after playing. They play different games together. They always keep their home neat and clean. They love their home very much.
Now let us learn some important vocabulary from this lesson.
The word "share" means to divide. When you share something, you give a part of it to someone else.
"Happily" means with happiness. Ali and his family live happily together.
"To place" means to keep. Ali places his toys at the proper place after playing.
"Discuss" means to talk about something. The family discusses many things in the sitting room.
Now let us learn about vowels and consonants. There are 26 letters in the English alphabet. Five of them are vowels: a, e, i, o, u. All the other 21 letters are consonants. Every word has at least one vowel in it.
Let us also learn the names of some fruits and vegetables. Fruits include guava, apple, orange, pear, and banana. Vegetables include potato, tomato, carrot, radish, and spinach. Can you name any more?
Now let us talk about nouns. A noun is the name of a person, place, or thing. For example, Ali is a noun because it is the name of a person. Home is a noun because it is the name of a place. Chair is a noun because it is the name of a thing.
We also learned about pronouns. A pronoun is a word that is used in place of a noun. Instead of saying "Ali is a boy," we can say "He is a boy." The pronouns are: He, She, It, I, We, They, and You.
Here are some examples. He is a student. She is a nice girl. They are doctors. I am a painter. You are my friend. It is a brown cow. We are neighbours.
Let us quickly review what we learned today. We read about Ali's home and his family. We learned four vocabulary words: share, happily, to place, and discuss. We learned that there are five vowels — a, e, i, o, u — and 21 consonants. We named fruits and vegetables. We learned that a noun is the name of a person, place, or thing, and a pronoun is a word used in place of a noun.
Remember, children — always keep your home neat and clean, just like Ali does.
Thank you for watching, and see you in the next lesson!
