Family Chores

Assessment Objectives

By the end of this unit, students should be able to:

  1. Answer comprehension questions about the family chores passage
  2. Identify words with the same beginning sound
  3. Identify words with the same ending sound
  4. Use possessive pronouns correctly
  5. Arrange words in alphabetical order
  6. Complete sentences using a word bank

Formative Assessment

1. Comprehension (During Day 1-2)

  • Task: Students answer 5 questions about the passage
  • Rating: All correct / Most correct / Needs support

2. Same Sounds (During Day 2)

  • Task: Group words by beginning sound; group words by ending sound
  • Criteria: Correctly groups at least 4 out of 5
  • Rating: Excellent / Good / Needs Practice

3. Possessive Pronouns (During Day 2)

  • Task: Fill in 5 blanks with the correct possessive pronoun
  • Criteria: At least 4 out of 5 correct
  • Rating: Excellent / Good / Needs Practice

4. Alphabetical Order (During Day 3)

  • Task: Arrange 5 words in alphabetical order
  • Criteria: All in correct order
  • Rating: Correct / Mostly correct / Needs practice

Part A: Comprehension (5 marks)

  1. What is the girl's name in the story? (1 mark)
  2. Who sweeps the kitchen? (1 mark)
  3. Who vacuums the rugs? (1 mark)
  4. Who cuts the grass? (1 mark)
  5. What do they do after finishing chores? (1 mark)

Part B: Same Sounds (5 marks)

  1. Write 3 words that begin with the /b/ sound. (1.5 marks)
  2. Write 3 words that end with the /t/ sound. (1.5 marks)
  3. Write the beginning sound of "lion." (1 mark)
  4. Write the ending sound of "cat." (1 mark)

Part C: Possessive Pronouns (5 marks) Fill in the correct possessive pronoun:

  1. I have a new book. It is ___. (1 mark)
  2. She has a cat. It is ___. (1 mark)
  3. We have new shoes. They are ___. (1 mark)
  4. He has a new car. It is ___. (1 mark)
  5. You have a toy. It is ___. (1 mark)

Part D: Alphabetical Order and Writing (5 marks)

  1. Arrange in alphabetical order: sun, apple, cat, zoo (2 marks)
  2. Fill in the blank: Days are ___ in winters. (long) (1 mark)
  3. Fill in the blank: A crow is a ___. (bird) (1 mark)
  4. Fill in the blank: Flowers ___ in spring. (bloom) (1 mark)

Total: 20 marks


Remediation Plan

  • Students scoring below 10/20 should:
    • Re-read the passage and identify who does each chore
    • Practise sorting words by beginning/ending sounds with flashcards
    • Use possessive pronoun sentence frames for daily practice
    • Practise alphabetical order with the alphabet chart
