Assessment Objectives
By the end of this unit, students should be able to:
- Recite the seasons poem and answer comprehension questions
- Name the four seasons and describe each
- Identify at least 7 colours by name
- Use "that" and "those" correctly in sentences
- Distinguish between naming words and action words
- Identify rhyming words and size vocabulary
Formative Assessment
1. Poem Recitation (During Day 1)
- Task: Students recite at least 2 stanzas of the poem
- Rating: Complete and fluent / Partial / Needs Practice
2. Seasons Knowledge (During Day 2)
- Task: Name the 4 seasons and tell one thing about each
- Rating: All correct / Most correct / Needs support
3. Colours (During Day 2)
- Task: Identify 7 colours from a rainbow chart
- Criteria: At least 6 out of 7 correct
- Rating: Excellent / Good / Needs Practice
4. That and Those (During Day 3)
- Task: Complete 4 sentences using "that" or "those"
- Rating: All correct / Most correct / Needs Practice
Summative Assessment
Part A: Comprehension (5 marks)
- How many seasons are there? (1 mark)
- Which season is the time for snow? (1 mark)
- In which season do new buds grow? (1 mark)
- Which season is very hot? (1 mark)
- In which season do we go back to school? (1 mark)
Part B: Colours and Sizes (5 marks)
- Name 5 colours. (2.5 marks)
- Which is bigger: a cat or an elephant? (0.5 mark)
- Which is longer: a pencil or a ruler? (0.5 mark)
- Circle the rhyming words: tap, cap, bat, map (1.5 marks)
Part C: That and Those (5 marks) Fill in "that" or "those":
- ___ is a tree. (1 mark)
- ___ are balloons. (1 mark)
- ___ is our home. (1 mark)
- ___ are mangoes. (1 mark)
- ___ is a mountain. (1 mark)
Part D: Naming and Action Words (5 marks) Write whether each word is a naming word or an action word:
- ball (1 mark)
- run (1 mark)
- tree (1 mark)
- read (1 mark)
- flower (1 mark)
Total: 20 marks
Remediation Plan
- Students scoring below 10/20 should:
- Practise the poem daily with a partner
- Use colour flashcards for review
- Use classroom objects to practise "that" (far) vs. "those" (far, many)
- Sort words into naming/action word categories with flashcards
