Three Little Cubs

Assessment Objectives

By the end of this unit, students should be able to:

  1. Recall the story of the three little cubs and answer comprehension questions
  2. Sound out individual letters in CVC words and blend them
  3. Distinguish between singular and plural nouns
  4. Write number words from 1 to 10
  5. Use polite expressions for sharing

Formative Assessment

1. Story Recall (During Day 1)

  • Task: Students answer:
    1. Name the three cubs.
    2. What was each house made of?
    3. What did the wolf say?
    4. Which house was the strongest?
  • Rating: All correct / Most correct / Needs support

2. Sound Blending (During Day 2)

  • Task: Teacher shows 6 CVC words letter by letter; students blend and say the word
  • Words: pot, bun, cow, pen, jam, bag
  • Criteria: Correctly blends at least 4 out of 6
  • Rating: Excellent / Good / Needs Practice

3. Singular and Plural (During Day 2)

  • Task: Students write the plural of 6 words: apple, bird, plant, quail, star, zebra
  • Criteria: Correctly writes at least 5 out of 6
  • Rating: Excellent / Good / Needs Practice

4. Number Words (During Day 3)

  • Task: Students write number words from 1 to 10
  • Criteria: All 10 correct with correct spelling
  • Rating: All correct / 7-9 correct / Below 7

Part A: Comprehension (5 marks)

  1. How many cubs were there? (1 mark)
  2. What was Sonu's house made of? (1 mark)
  3. What did the wolf say? (1 mark)
  4. Whose house could not be blown down? (1 mark)
  5. What is the moral of the story? (1 mark)

Part B: Sounds and Blending (5 marks)

  • Read each letter and write the word:
    1. p-o-t = ___ (1 mark)
    2. b-u-n = ___ (1 mark)
    3. j-a-m = ___ (1 mark)
    4. p-e-n = ___ (1 mark)
    5. b-a-g = ___ (1 mark)

Part C: Singular and Plural (5 marks)

  • Write the plural:
    1. apple = ___ (1 mark)
    2. bird = ___ (1 mark)
    3. star = ___ (1 mark)

Part D: Number Words (5 marks)

Remediation Plan

  • Students scoring below 10/20 should:
    • Listen to the story again and answer questions with teacher guidance
    • Practise CVC blending with flashcards daily
    • Use objects to reinforce singular (one) vs. plural (more than one)
    • Write number words with dotted guides
