Day 1: Reading (40 minutes)

Materials

  • Textbook pages 22-23, pictures of straw house, stick house, brick house

Warm-Up (10 minutes)

  • Show pictures of different types of houses
  • Ask: "Have you ever seen a cub? Where can you find cubs?"
  • Discuss what makes a strong house vs. a weak house

Main Activity (20 minutes)

  • Read the story aloud:
    • Three little cubs: Sonu, Monu, and Gonu
    • Sonu lived in a house of straw, Monu in a house of sticks, Gonu in a house of bricks
    • A big bad wolf came to Sonu's house: "I will huff and puff and I will blow your house down." He blew it down.
    • Sonu ran to Monu's house. The wolf came and blew Monu's house down too.
    • Sonu and Monu ran to Gonu's house. The wolf came but could not blow the brick house down. It was very strong.
    • The wolf went away. Sonu, Monu, and Gonu lived happily together in the red brick house.
  • Ask while-reading question: "Do you share your things with others in times of need?"
  • Ask post-reading questions: "Do you like the story?" and "Name the largest forest of the world."

Wrap-Up (10 minutes)

  • Discuss the moral: helping each other in times of need, sharing is important
  • Ask students to name the three cubs and what their houses were made of

Differentiation
