My Family and I

Assessment Objectives

By the end of this unit, students should be able to:

  1. Answer comprehension questions about the passage
  2. Identify vowels and consonants
  3. Name parts of the human body
  4. Distinguish between common nouns and proper nouns
  5. Read and blend CVC (three-letter) words
  6. Introduce themselves and their family using complete sentences

Formative Assessment

1. Comprehension Check (During Day 1-2)

  • Task: Students answer:
    1. How many brothers does Asad have?
    2. When does Asad come back from school?
    3. What does Asad do after homework?
    4. Who tells bedtime stories?
  • Rating: All correct / Most correct / Needs support

2. Vowels and Consonants (During Day 2)

  • Task: Teacher says 10 random letters; students identify each as vowel or consonant
  • Criteria: Correctly identifies at least 8 out of 10
  • Rating: Excellent / Good / Needs Practice

3. Body Parts (During Day 2)

  • Task: Teacher points to 8 body parts; students name them
  • Body parts: eye, nose, mouth, neck, hand, finger, leg, foot
  • Criteria: Correctly names at least 6 out of 8
  • Rating: Excellent / Good / Needs Practice

4. Common and Proper Nouns (During Day 3)

  • Task: Given 5 sentences, students identify the common noun and proper noun in each
  • Criteria: Correctly identifies at least 4 out of 5
  • Rating: Excellent / Good / Needs Practice

5. CVC Word Blending (During Day 3)

  • Task: Teacher shows letter cards for CVC words (p-i-n, r-a-t, b-i-n, t-u-b, c-o-t, h-e-n); students blend and say the word
  • Criteria: Correctly blends at least 4 out of 6
  • Rating: Excellent / Good / Needs Practice

Part A: Comprehension (5 marks)

  1. What is the boy's name in the story? (1 mark)
  2. How many brothers does he have? (1 mark)
  3. When does he come back from school? (1 mark)
  4. Who guides him to do homework? (1 mark)
  5. Who tells bedtime stories? (1 mark)

Part B: Vowels and Consonants (5 marks)

  1. Write the five vowels. (2 marks)
  2. Circle the vowels: d, r, m, a, i, k, u, b, l, s (3 marks -- 1 mark per correctly circled vowel, minus for errors)

Part C: Body Parts and Nouns (5 marks)

  1. Fill in the missing letters: mo___th, fin___er, n___se (3 marks)
  2. Circle the common noun and underline the proper noun: "Aden goes to school daily." (2 marks)

Part D: CVC Words and Oral (5 marks)

  1. Read and write the word: p-i-n = ___, c-o-t = ___, h-e-n = ___ (3 marks)
  2. Introduce yourself to the class (name, age, family). (2 marks)

Total: 20 marks


Remediation Plan

  • Students scoring below 10/20 should:
    • Practise vowel/consonant identification with letter cards daily
    • Use body parts flashcards for review
    • Practise blending CVC words with a partner
    • Rehearse self-introduction with the teacher
