Revision Objectives

• Recognise the letter "y" and say its sound /y/
• Recall the words yak, yo-yo, yolk, yam and yacht
• Repeat the speech-bubble sentence
• Practise tracing "y" with its tail below the line

Revision Activity 1: Yes for Y

Time: 5 minutes

• Sit the learners in a circle
• Say the lesson words one by one: yak, yo-yo, yolk, yam, yacht
• Learners shout "yes!" after each "y" word
• Mix in one or two words from earlier letters; learners stay quiet for those
• Praise good listening with a big clap

Revision Activity 2: Word Actions

Time: 5 minutes

• Give each word an action:
  • yak: put fingers on your head like horns
  • yo-yo: move a hand down and up
  • yolk: make a round circle with your hands
  • yam: pretend to dig in the ground
  • yacht: rock side to side like a boat
• Say a word; learners do the action
• Do an action; learners say the word

Revision Activity 3: Big Picture Talk

Time: 5 minutes

• Open page 70 and look at the big picture together
• Ask pointing questions:
  1. "Where is the yak?"
  2. "What is the yak playing with?"
  3. "How many horns does the yak have?"
• Say the speech bubble together: "The yak is playing with a yo-yo."
• Learners play a pretend yo-yo as they say it

Revision Activity 4: Air and Pencil Tracing

Time: 10 minutes

• Draw a giant "y" in the air together: down, round, up; then a long line down, below the line
• Learners draw "y" with a finger on the table and in a sand tray
• Hand out a sheet with large dotted "y" letters, each with a red starting dot and a clear baseline
• Learners trace with a crayon, starting at the dot, and take the tail below the line
• Check pencil grip and praise every try

Revision Activity 5: Horn Counting

Time: 5 minutes

• Two learners stand up and make yak horns with their fingers
• The class counts the horns on one yak: one, two
• Then counts the horns on both yaks: one, two, three, four

Revision Activity 6: Playdough Yo-Yo

Time: 5 minutes (optional)

• Learners press two flat playdough discs onto a short stick
• Help them wind wool round for the string
• Each learner holds up the yo-yo and says "yo-yo"
