Revision Objectives

• Reinforce the name and short sound of the letter "u"
• Recall the words umbrella, umpire, unicorn, uniform and utensils
• Practise the speech-bubble sentence orally
• Strengthen tracing of the letter "u" from the red dot

Revision Activity 1: Rain and Umbrellas

Time: 5 minutes

• Teacher taps fingers on the table to make "rain"
• When it rains, learners hold imaginary umbrellas over their heads and say "/u/, umbrella"
• When the rain stops, they put the umbrellas down
• Repeat, sometimes quickly, sometimes slowly

Revision Activity 2: Picture Card Point

Time: 8 minutes

• Place the picture cards umbrella, umpire, unicorn, uniform and utensils on the floor
• Teacher says a word; one learner points to or sits beside the card
• Reverse: teacher points to a card, the class says the word
• Add actions:
  • umbrella -- hold it over your head
  • umpire -- hold up one finger like a referee
  • unicorn -- a finger horn on your forehead
  • uniform -- touch your school clothes
  • utensils -- stir a pot

Revision Activity 3: Umpire Sentence

Time: 5 minutes

• Show page 60 and point to the speech bubble
• Say: "The umpire is holding an umbrella in the rain."
• Learners echo the sentence in three parts
• Ask:
  1. Who is holding the umbrella? (the umpire)
  2. What is the umpire holding? (an umbrella)
  3. Is it sunny or rainy? (rainy)

Revision Activity 4: Tracing Practice

Time: 8 minutes

• Draw a big "u" on the board with a red dot at the top
• Learners trace "u" in the air: down, round like a cup, up, and down again
• Give each learner a sheet with large dotted "u" letters
• Learners trace with a crayon first, then with a pencil
• Teacher checks the starting dot and the pencil grip

Revision Activity 5: Under the Umbrella

Time: 4 minutes

• Linked to the Little Explorers activity on page 60
• Open a real umbrella and hold it up
• Learners come under it two at a time and say one "u" word from the page
• Everyone says "/u/" together to finish
