Assessment Objectives

By the end of this lesson, learners should be able to:

1. Point to the letter "t" when the teacher says its name
2. Say the sound /t/
3. Name the pictures tree, tortoise, tent and train
4. Repeat the sentence "Look at the happy tortoise under the green tree." with the teacher
5. Trace the letter "t" starting at the red dot

All assessment is done by watching and listening. Learners are not asked to read or write words.

Formative Assessment

1. Letter and Sound Check (During Day 1)

• Task: Hold up the "t" card among two other letter cards. Ask: "Where is t?" Then ask: "What sound does t make?"
• Criteria:
  • Points to "t" correctly
  • Says a short, crisp /t/ (not "tuh")
• Rating: Yes, confidently / Yes, with help / Not yet

2. Picture Naming (During Day 1)

• Task: Show the pictures from page 54 one at a time: tree, tortoise, tent, train
• Criteria: Names at least 3 out of 4 pictures
• Rating: Yes, confidently / Yes, with help / Not yet

3. Listen and Repeat (During Day 1)

• Task: Learner repeats the speech-bubble sentence in short parts after the teacher
• Criteria:
  • Repeats "the happy tortoise" and "under the green tree"
  • Can answer "Where is the tortoise?" (under the tree)
• Rating: Yes, confidently / Yes, with help / Not yet

4. Sound Listening (During Day 3)

• Task: Little Innovators activity: the learner puts a hand up only for /t/ among /t/, /s/, /a/
• Criteria: Responds to /t/ and not to the other sounds
• Rating: Yes, confidently / Yes, with help / Not yet

5. Tracing Observation (During Day 2)

• Task: Learner traces the dotted "t" letters on page 55
• Criteria:
  • Starts at the red dot and goes down first
  • Adds the line across second
  • Holds the pencil with a pinch grip
• Rating: Yes, confidently / Yes, with help / Not yet

Do this one learner at a time. Keep it short and friendly.

Remediation Plan

  • Repeat the tracing rows on page 55 with hand-over-hand help
