Revision Objectives

• Reinforce the name and sound of the letter "s"
• Recall the words snake, sunflower, sheep, ship and shirt
• Practise the speech-bubble sentence orally
• Strengthen tracing of the letter "s" from the red dot

Revision Activity 1: Snake Line

Time: 5 minutes

• Learners stand in a line, holding the shoulders of the learner in front
• The "snake" wiggles slowly round the room
• Everyone hisses "sssss" while moving
• When the teacher holds up the "s" card, the snake stops and says "s"

Revision Activity 2: Picture Card Point

Time: 8 minutes

• Place the picture cards snake, sunflower, sheep, ship and shirt on the floor
• Teacher says a word; one learner points to or sits beside the card
• Reverse: teacher points to a card, the class says the word
• Add actions:
  • snake -- wiggle
  • sunflower -- stretch up tall
  • sheep -- say "baa"
  • ship -- rock side to side
  • shirt -- touch your own top

Revision Activity 3: Snake Sentence

Time: 5 minutes

• Show page 52 and point to the speech bubble
• Say: "A happy green snake is playing with a sunflower."
• Learners echo the sentence in three parts
• Ask:
  1. Who is happy? (the snake)
  2. What colour is the snake? (green)
  3. What is the snake playing with? (a sunflower)

Revision Activity 4: Tracing Practice

Time: 8 minutes

• Draw a big "s" on the board with a red dot at the top
• Learners trace "s" in the air: round to the left, round to the right, finish at the bottom
• Give each learner a sheet with large dotted "s" letters
• Learners trace with a crayon first, then with a pencil
• Teacher checks the starting dot and the pencil grip

Revision Activity 5: Sunshine Circle

Time: 4 minutes

• Linked to the Little Explorers activity on page 52
• Learners sit in a circle and pretend to be a sunflower in the sun
• Each learner says one "s" word from the page as they "grow" up tall
• End with everyone saying "sun, /s/"
