Revision Objectives

• Remember the letter name "o" and the sound /o/
• Say the page words again: oranges, octopus, owl, onion, ostrich
• Repeat the sentence: "The happy octopus playing with all the yummy oranges in the water!"
• Practise the "o" stroke: start at the top, round, round, and close

Revision Activity 1: Round Mouths

Time: 5 minutes

• Children look at a partner and make a big round mouth
• Everyone says "/o/" together, first softly, then loudly
• Make a big "o" with arms over the head
• Finish with: "o says /o/!"

Revision Activity 2: Octopus Arms

Time: 5 minutes

• Children wiggle their arms like the octopus on page 42
• The teacher says a word. If it is a page word (oranges, octopus, owl, onion, ostrich), children wiggle their arms
• If it is not an "o" word, children freeze
• Keep it fast and fun

Revision Activity 3: Picture Hunt

Time: 5 minutes

• Place the five picture cards around the room: oranges, octopus, owl, onion, ostrich
• Say a word; children walk to the correct card and touch it
• Then hold up a card and children say the word together
• Children hoot for owl and run on the spot for ostrich

Revision Activity 4: Say the Sentence

Time: 5 minutes

• Say the sentence in three short parts: "The happy octopus / playing with all the yummy oranges / in the water!"
• Children echo each part
• Act it out: wiggly arms, catching oranges, splashing in water
• Let volunteers be the octopus at the front

Revision Activity 5: Circle Tracing

Time: 10 minutes

• Children draw a giant "o" in the air
• Say the stroke together: "Start at the top. Round to the left, down, round the bottom, and back up to close."
• Walk round a chalk circle on the floor in the same direction
• Give each child a sheet with three large dotted "o" letters and a red start dot at the top
• Children trace with a crayon. Accept every attempt with praise

Revision Activity 6: Colour and Say

Time: 5 minutes

• Children colour the owl picture on page 43 if not yet finished
• As they colour, ask: "What is it? Which letter does it start with?"

Key Points to Remember

• The letter is "o" and it says /o/, as in octopus

• Owl starts with the letter o, but its first sound is "ow"
