Importance of Plants

Revision Objectives

By the end of revision, students should be confident in:

  • Explaining why plants are important (food, materials, medicine, oxygen, environment)
  • Defining afforestation and deforestation
  • Creating anagrams and identifying homophones
  • Using three tenses correctly (simple present, present continuous, simple past)
  • Identifying the five elements of a story

Revision Activity 1: Plants Importance Mind Map (10 minutes)

Type: Written and visual

Draw a mind map with "PLANTS" in the centre and five branches:

Branch Details
Food Fruits, vegetables, pulses, grains
Materials Wood, paper, cotton, rubber, oils, seeds, spices
Medicine Tulsi, neem, ginger, garlic
Oxygen Give oxygen, purify air, act as air purifiers
Environment Cool environment, absorb sun heat, bind soil with roots

Add a sixth branch: Conservation — don't cut trees, promote afforestation, ban deforestation, protect forests.


Revision Activity 2: Anagram Challenge (10 minutes)

Type: Pair competition

Give pairs these words to find anagrams:

  • heart → earth
  • team → meat/mate
  • act → cat
  • ten → net
  • race → care/acre
  • eat → ate/tea

First pair to find all wins!


Revision Activity 3: Homophone Matching (10 minutes)

Match the homophones:

Revision Activity 4: Tense Practice (10 minutes)

Write each sentence in the tense indicated:

  3. Simple Past: We _______ (plant) seeds in the garden yesterday.
  4. Simple Present: The sun _______ (rise) in the east.

Revision Activity 5: Story Elements Review (10 minutes)

Type: Oral discussion

  1. Pick a story from any earlier unit (e.g., Asif and the mirror, Nicky & Ducky).
  2. Students identify:
    • Characters
    • Setting
    • Beginning
    • Middle (the problem)
    • Ending (the solution)
  3. Students then briefly outline their own story idea using all five elements.
