Assessment Objectives
By the end of this unit, students should be able to:
- Retell the story of the shepherd boy and state its moral
- Answer comprehension questions about the story
- Read and write common sight words
- Use question words (what, who, where, when, why) correctly
- Name objects found in the classroom and at home
- Create a simple greeting card with addressee, message, and sender
Formative Assessment
1. Story Comprehension (During Day 1-2)
- Task: Students answer 5 questions about the story
- Rating: All correct / Most correct / Needs support
2. Sight Words (During Day 2)
- Task: Flash 16 sight word cards; students read each one
- Criteria: Correctly reads at least 12 out of 16
- Rating: Excellent / Good / Needs Practice
3. Question Words (During Day 2)
- Task: Students make 3 sentences using different question words
- Criteria: Uses correct question word and question mark
- Rating: Excellent / Good / Needs Practice
4. Object Identification (During Day 3)
- Task: Name 4 classroom objects and 4 home objects
- Criteria: At least 6 out of 8 correct
- Rating: Excellent / Good / Needs Practice
5. Greeting Card (During Day 3)
- Task: Create a greeting card with correct format
- Criteria: Includes addressee name, message, sender name
- Rating: Complete / Partial / Needs help
Summative Assessment
Part A: Comprehension (5 marks)
- Where did the shepherd boy take his sheep? (1 mark)
- What did the shepherd boy cry out? (1 mark)
- Did the villagers come the third time? (1 mark)
- What happened to the sheep? (1 mark)
- What is the moral of the story? (1 mark)
Part B: Sight Words (5 marks) Write these sight words from memory (teacher reads them aloud):

Remediation Plan
- Students scoring below 10/20 should:
- Listen to the story again and practise answering questions
- Practise sight words with flashcards daily (5 minutes)
