Shepherd Boy

Subject: English | Class: 1 | Series: Leeds (SNC 2020)

Hello children! Welcome to today's lesson. We are going to learn about the shepherd boy. This is a very important story about telling the truth.

Once upon a time, there was a shepherd boy. Every day, he took his flock of sheep to the hill to graze on the fresh green grass. He sat there all day with nothing to do. He was very bored.

One day, he had an idea. He cried out, "Wolf! Wolf!" All the men from the village came running with their sticks. But when they got to the hill, there was no wolf! The shepherd boy laughed at them. He thought it was very funny.

A few days later, he did it again. "Wolf! Wolf!" he cried. The villagers came running up the hill again, only to find that the boy had fooled them once more. He laughed and laughed. But this time, the villagers were very angry. They told him that if he cried for help again, they would not come.

The next day, something scary happened. A real wolf came! The shepherd boy was very frightened. He cried out, "Wolf! Wolf!" as loud as he could. But no one came. Nobody believed him because he had lied before. The wolf took away some of his sheep. The poor shepherd boy went home crying.

From that day on, the boy promised never to lie again. The moral of this story is very important: no one believes a liar, even when he speaks the truth. We should always be honest and tell the truth.

Now let us learn about sight words. Sight words are common words that we should know by looking at them. Here are some sight words: a, an, the, is, am, are, he, she, it, has, have, shall, will, to, for, in. These words appear in almost every sentence we read. Let us practise: a, an, the, is, am, are.

Let us also learn about question words. We use question words to ask questions. There are five important question words: what, who, where, when, and why. "What is your name?" uses "what." "Who are you?" uses "who." "Where do you live?" uses "where." "When will you go to school?" uses "when." "Why are you crying?" uses "why." Remember, questions always end with a question mark.

Let us also talk about objects around us. In a classroom, we have a chair, a fan, a blackboard, and chalk. At home, we have a window, a table, a television, and an iron. Can you name more objects in your classroom? Can you name more objects at home?

Finally, let us learn how to write a greeting card. A greeting card has three parts. First, we write the name of the person we are sending it to: "Dear Hamna." Then we write our message: "Wish you a Happy Birthday!" Then we write our name: "From Ayesha." It is nice to give greeting cards to our friends and family.

Let us review what we learned today. We read the story of the shepherd boy who cried wolf. The moral is: never tell a lie, because no one will believe you when you tell the truth. We learned sight words like a, an, the, is, and am. We learned question words: what, who, where, when, and why. We named objects in the classroom and at home. And we learned how to write a greeting card.

Wonderful job, everyone! You have now completed all the lessons. Keep reading, keep learning, and always tell the truth! Goodbye!
