Assessment Objectives

By the end of this unit, students should be able to:

  1. Answer comprehension questions about the school passage
  2. Identify adjectives in sentences
  3. Name common fruits and vegetables
  4. Identify left and right directions
  5. Use pronouns correctly
  6. Use "a" and "an" correctly before nouns

Formative Assessment

1. Comprehension (During Day 1-2)

  • Task: Students answer questions about the passage
  • Rating: All correct / Most correct / Needs support

2. Adjective Identification (During Day 2)

  • Task: Encircle the adjective in 5 sentences
  • Criteria: Correctly identifies at least 4 out of 5
  • Rating: Excellent / Good / Needs Practice

3. Fruits and Vegetables (During Day 2)

  • Task: Sort 8 pictures into Fruits and Vegetables categories
  • Criteria: Correctly sorts at least 6 out of 8
  • Rating: Excellent / Good / Needs Practice

4. Articles (During Day 3)

  • Task: Write "a" or "an" before 6 nouns
  • Criteria: At least 5 out of 6 correct
  • Rating: Excellent / Good / Needs Practice

Part A: Comprehension (5 marks)

  1. What is the name of the school in the story? (1 mark)
  2. How many classrooms are there? (1 mark)
  3. How many teachers are there? (1 mark)
  4. Does the school have a library? (1 mark)
  5. What does the principal do? (1 mark)

Part B: Adjectives (5 marks) Encircle the adjective in each sentence:

  1. It is a big school. (1 mark)
  2. She has a red bag. (1 mark)
  3. The tall boy is running. (1 mark)
  4. I ate a sweet mango. (1 mark)
  5. This is a white cat. (1 mark)

Part C: Fruits, Vegetables & Directions (5 marks)

  1. Name 2 fruits. (1 mark)
  2. Name 2 vegetables. (1 mark)
  3. Write left or right for 3 pictures. (3 marks)

Part D: Pronouns and Articles (5 marks)

  1. Fill in the pronoun: Ayesha is a girl. ___ studies in class one. (1 mark)
  2. Fill in the pronoun: Ali and Asad are boys. ___ play cricket. (1 mark)
  3. Write "a" or "an": ___ apple, ___ cat, ___ umbrella (3 marks)

Total: 20 marks


Remediation Plan

  • Students scoring below 10/20 should:
    • Re-read the passage and answer questions with teacher support
    • Use adjective flashcards for daily practice
    • Sort real fruits and vegetables in the classroom
    • Practise "a" vs. "an" with picture cards
