Video Script -- Unit 6

My School

Subject: English | Class: 1 | Series: Leeds (SNC 2020)

Hello children! Welcome to today's lesson. We are going to learn about school.

Let me read you a passage about a child's school. The child says: "I study in Junior Model School. It is the best school of our city. It is situated on G.T Road in Lahore."

The school has a small garden where colourful flowers bloom in spring. The children play in the garden during recess time. There are sixteen teachers and three hundred students. There are ten classrooms that are whitewashed and airy. The school also has a library with books on all subjects. The teachers are able and hardworking. The principal is a noble man who respects all the teachers. The child says, "I like my school very much."

Do you like your school? What do you like about it? School is a wonderful place where we learn, play, and make friends.

Now let us learn about adjectives. An adjective is a describing word. It tells you more about a noun. For example: a beautiful bird. "Beautiful" is the adjective -- it describes the bird. A big elephant. "Big" is the adjective. A green parrot. "Green" is the adjective. Can you think of an adjective for your school? Maybe "big school" or "nice school."

Let us also learn the names of some fruits and vegetables. Fruits include apple, mango, apricot, and grapes. Say them with me: apple, mango, apricot, grapes. Vegetables include spinach, carrot, cauliflower, and turnip. Spinach, carrot, cauliflower, turnip. Fruits and vegetables are healthy foods that we should eat every day.

Now let us learn about directions. This side is left. This side is right. Raise your left hand. Now raise your right hand. Good!

Let us learn about pronouns. A pronoun is a word that takes the place of a noun. Instead of saying "Ayesha is a girl. Ayesha studies in class one," we say "Ayesha is a girl. She studies in class one." "She" is a pronoun. Other pronouns are: I, we, you, he, she, it, and they.

One more thing: articles "a" and "an." We use "a" before words that start with a consonant sound: a boat, a cup, a pencil. We use "an" before words that start with a vowel sound: an apple, an inkpot, an umbrella.

Let us review. We read about a school and why school is important. We learned that adjectives are describing words like beautiful, big, and green. We named fruits and vegetables. We learned left and right directions. We learned pronouns: I, we, you, he, she, it, they. And we learned when to use "a" and when to use "an."

Excellent work, everyone! See you next time!
