My Family and I

Subject: English | Class: 1 | Series: Leeds (SNC 2020)

Hello children! Welcome to today's lesson. We are going to learn about family.

Let me tell you a story about a boy named Asad. Asad is six years old. He lives with his parents, grandparents, one brother, and one sister. He is in grade one, just like you!

Asad gets up early in the morning. He takes a bath and goes to school. He always washes his hands before eating food. He comes back home at one o'clock. His mother guides him to do his homework. After homework, he plays with his brother and sister in the lawn. At night, the whole family has dinner together. His grandmother tells them a bedtime story. They respect each other. They are a happy family.

Now, do you have a family? How many brothers and sisters do you have? Families are very special. We should love and respect our family members.

Let us now learn about vowels and consonants. In the English language, there are two types of letters. The first type is called vowels. There are five vowels: a, e, i, o, u. Say them with me: a, e, i, o, u. All the other letters are called consonants. Letters like b, c, d, f, g -- these are consonants.

Let us also learn some parts of the human body. Point to your eye. Now point to your nose. Touch your mouth. Touch your forehead. Show me your hand. Wiggle your fingers. Stamp your foot. These are all parts of the body: eye, nose, mouth, neck, forehead, hand, finger, leg, foot, and toes.

Now let us learn two types of nouns. A common noun is a general name for a person, animal, place, or thing. For example: boy, lion, mountain, pizza. A proper noun is a specific name. For example: Ayesha, Karachi, Black Beauty. Proper nouns always start with a capital letter.

Let us also practise reading three-letter words by sounding them out. Listen: p-i-n, pin. r-a-t, rat. b-i-n, bin. t-u-b, tub. c-o-t, cot. h-e-n, hen. You say each sound separately first, then blend them together to make the word.

Let us review what we learned today. We read about Asad and his family. We learned the five vowels: a, e, i, o, u. We named parts of the body. We learned the difference between common nouns and proper nouns. And we practised sounding out three-letter words.

Great job, everyone! See you next time!
