Revision Objectives

• Recognise the letter "a" and say its sound /a/
• Recall the words ant, apple, alligator, apricot and anchor
• Repeat the sentence "The ant likes the tasty apple."
• Trace the letter "a" with the correct stroke

Revision Activity 1: Apple Pass

Time: 5 minutes

• Sit in a circle and pass a real apple around
• When a learner holds the apple, they say "apple" and the sound /a/
• Ask: "What colour is it?" and let the learner answer
• Keep going until everyone has had a turn

Revision Activity 2: Point and Say

Time: 5 minutes

• Open page 4 or hold up picture cards
• Say a word and learners point to it: ant, apple, alligator, apricot, anchor
• Then swap: you point, learners say the word
• Clap once for every correct answer

Revision Activity 3: Ant Sentence Game

Time: 5 minutes

• Hold a picture of the ant on the apple
• Say "The ant likes the tasty apple." in a tiny ant voice
• Learners repeat in a tiny ant voice, then a big loud voice, then a whisper
• Let two volunteers say it on their own

Revision Activity 4: Snapping Alligator

Time: 5 minutes

• Give out building blocks and let learners build an alligator with a long snapping jaw
• Learners snap their arms like a jaw and say "alligator"
• Ask: "What sound does alligator start with?" Learners say /a/

Revision Activity 5: Air, Sand and Pencil Tracing

Time: 8 minutes

• Draw a big "a" in the air together: start at the top, curve round, back up, straight down
• Let learners trace "a" with a finger on the big pink "a" on page 5
• Trace one dotted row of "a" on a fresh sheet with a pencil
• Check that every learner starts at the top

Revision Activity 6: Count the a's

Time: 3 minutes

• Write apple, ant and alligator large on the board
• Point to each word and say it; learners count the "a" letters with you
• Apple has one, ant has one, alligator has two
