The Eid
Subject: English | Class: 2 | Series: Leeds (SNC 2020)
Revision Objectives
- Recite the Eid poem from memory.
- Recall vocabulary meanings (celebrate, cruising, mosque, grateful, delicious).
- Identify words with same beginning and ending sounds.
- Name shapes and colours.
- Spell key words correctly.
- Apply capitalisation rules.
- Use has/have correctly for possession.
- Write number words from 1 to 50.
- Write sentences about a favourite festival.
Activity 1: Eid Poem Recitation (5 minutes)
Focus: Reading and memorisation
Students recite the poem together, then volunteers recite individually. Award points for expression and rhythm.
Activity 2: Vocabulary Sentences (5 minutes)
Focus: Word meanings
Students make sentences using each word:
- celebrate — "We celebrate Eid with our family."
- cruising — "People go cruising in their cars."
- mosque — "We pray at the mosque."
- grateful — "I am grateful to Allah."
- delicious — "My mother makes delicious food."
Activity 3: Sound Families (10 minutes)
Focus: Words with same beginning and ending sounds
Round 1 — Same beginning sound: Teacher says a sound. Students write three words.
- /b/ → ball, bus, book
- /c/ → cat, cup, car
- /m/ → mat, mug, map
Round 2 — Same ending sound: Teacher says a word. Students write two words that end the same way.
- pot → hot, got, dot
- car → far, bar, jar
- big → dig, fig, gig
Activity 4: Shape Hunt (5 minutes)
Focus: Shapes
Students look around the classroom and find objects that match each shape:
- Circle — clock, ball
- Rectangle — door, board, book
- Triangle — set square, roof shape
- Square — tile, window
- Crescent — moon symbol
Share findings with the class.
Activity 5: Colour Bingo (5 minutes)
Focus: Colours
- Students draw a 3x3 grid and write five colour names in random boxes (blue, yellow, purple, red, green) plus leave some blank.
- Teacher calls out a colour. Students cross it off.
- First to get three in a row calls "Bingo!" and reads the three colours.
Activity 6: Spelling Bee (5 minutes)
Focus: Correct spelling
Teacher calls out words. Students write them.
Words: celebrate, grateful, delicious, mosque, different, crescent, rectangle, triangle
Check answers together.
Activity 7: Capitalisation Fix (5 minutes)
Focus: Capitalisation rules
Write two sentences on the board without capitals. Students rewrite correctly.
- ahmed lives in islamabad. → Ahmed lives in Islamabad.
- we celebrate eid every year. → We celebrate Eid every year.
Activity 8: Has or Have Challenge (5 minutes)
Focus: Showing possession
Teacher reads sentences with a blank. Students call out "has" or "have."
- She ___ a red bag. (has)
- I ___ two brothers. (have)
- The cat ___ a long tail. (has)
- We ___ many friends. (have)
- They ___ colourful kites. (have)
- He ___ a new book. (has)
Activity 9: Number Word Speed Round (5 minutes)
Focus: Number words 1-50
Teacher calls out numbers rapidly. Students write the word form.
Numbers: 8, 13, 19, 25, 31, 44, 50
Check answers together.
Activity 10: My Favourite Festival — Quick Write (5 minutes)
Focus: Writing
Students write three sentences about their favourite festival in their notebooks. Remind them to use correct spelling, capitalisation, and punctuation.
