Holy Prophet (PBUH)
Subject: English | Class: 1 | Series: Leeds (SNC 2020)
Overview
This unit introduces students to the life of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) through a short biographical passage. Students learn about the alphabet (capital and small letters), animal vocabulary, and practise a polite dialogue about borrowing.
Learning Objectives
- Use pre-reading strategies to predict the story by looking at pictures
- Interact with the text to locate specific factual information
- Know about the truthfulness of Hazrat Muhammad Rasoolullah (PBUH)
- Pronounce and match spoken words with written words
- Comprehend and respond to simple wh-questions
- Recognise different categories of naming words (e.g., animals)
- Trace and draw circles, curves, and strokes
- Trace and write capital and small letters of the English alphabet
- Write missing letters of the alphabet
- Put letters of the alphabet in order
- Demonstrate common conventions of oral interactions to express needs
Day 1: Reading (40 minutes)
Materials
- Textbook pages 11-12, pictures of Makkah and Madina, world map
Warm-Up (10 minutes)
- Show pictures of Makkah and Madina
- Ask: "What do you know about the first Nabi of Allah?"
- Discuss who the Holy Prophet (PBUH) was
Main Activity (20 minutes)
- Read the passage aloud with correct pronunciation:
- The Holy Rasool (PBUH) was born at Makkah in 571 AD
- His father's name was Hazrat Abdullah, mother was Hazrat Amina, grandfather was Hazrat Abdul Mutlib
- He was called "Sadiq" (Truthful) and "Ameen" (Trustee) even by his enemies
- He called the people of Quraish near Mount Safa and they confirmed his honesty
- At age 40, in the Cave of Hira, He received the first revelation from Allah through Hazrat Jibraeel (AS)
- The Holy Quran was revealed to Him; He told us Allah is One
- He passed away at the age of 63; His holy shrine is in Madina
- Pause at while-reading questions: "What is Safa?" and "Where is Safa located?"
- Discuss post-reading questions: "Who is the last Rasool of Allah?" and "Do you like the story?"
Wrap-Up (10 minutes)
- Ask students to share one fact they learned about the Holy Prophet (PBUH)
- Emphasise the values of truthfulness and trustworthiness
Differentiation
- Support: Use simple sentences to explain the passage; repeat key facts
- Extension: Ask students to tell the story to a partner in their own words
Day 2: Comprehension & Animals Vocabulary (40 minutes)
Materials
- Textbook pages 13-14, animal flashcards (fox, lion, elephant, camel, rhino, peacock, goat, tiger)
Warm-Up (5 minutes)
- Quick review: "Where was the Holy Prophet (PBUH) born?"
Main Activity -- Comprehension (15 minutes)
- Work through comprehension questions:
- Who was the father of Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH)?
- Who was the mother of Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH)?
- Who was known as "Sadiq" and "Ameen"?
- Where did the people of Quraish gather?
- Where is the shrine of Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH)?
Main Activity -- Animals (15 minutes)
- Introduce animal vocabulary with flashcards: fox, lion, elephant, camel, rhino, peacock, goat, tiger
- Say each animal name and have students repeat
- Discuss: "Animals have a lot of importance in our lives. They offer humans food and many other things."
- Ask students to name animals they have seen
Wrap-Up (5 minutes)
- Quick review of animal names
Differentiation
- Support: Focus on 4 animal names first, then add more
- Extension: Students draw their favourite animal and label it
Day 3: Writing & Oral Communication (40 minutes)
Materials
- Textbook page 14, lined notebooks, pencils
Warm-Up (5 minutes)
- Sing the alphabet song together
Main Activity -- Alphabet Tracing (20 minutes)
- Guide students to trace and write all 26 capital and small letters: Aa, Bb, Cc... Zz
- Demonstrate correct letter formation on the board
- Complete the "Write letters before, between, and after" exercise:
- Before: ___ Cc, ___ Hh
- Between: Dd ___ Ff, Jj ___ Ll
- After: Aa ___, Mm ___
Main Activity -- Oral Communication (10 minutes)
- Read and practise the dialogue:
- Hashir: "Assalaamu Alaikum! How do you do?"
- Mehroz: "Wa Alaikum Assalaam! I am A1."
- Hashir: "May I read your book?"
- Mehroz: "Sure. Here there is."
- Hashir: "Much thank of you!"
- Mehroz: "You are always welcome."
- Divide students into pairs to practise
Wrap-Up (5 minutes)
- Review the alphabet order
- Recap the polite way to ask to borrow something
Differentiation
- Support: Focus on tracing only; provide extra dotted guides
- Extension: Students write the alphabet from memory
