Video Script — Unit 6
Eid-ul-Adha
Subject: English | Class: 4 | Series: Leeds (SNC 2020)
Hello, students! Welcome to Unit 6 of your Leeds English textbook. Today we are going to read a wonderful story about four animal friends and learn an important lesson about friendship and unity.
There was a lake in the middle of a beautiful forest. Near the lake there lived four friends. They were a deer, a crow, a mouse, and a tortoise. They met every day near the lake.
One day, all the friends met except the deer. The deer was missing. The mouse said, "Friends, the deer should have been here by now." The crow agreed and said, "He may be in trouble. I will fly over the forest and look for him."
The crow flew over the forest and soon heard the deer's voice. "Help! Help! Can someone hear me? I am trapped!" The deer was caught in a hunter's net. The crow came down and said, "Don't be afraid. I'll tell our friends about you and we will save you."
The crow quickly flew back and told the mouse and the tortoise. The tortoise had an idea. He said, "Our friend mouse can cut the net with his sharp teeth!" The crow said, "That's a good idea! I will take him on my back."
The crow flew to where the deer was trapped, carrying the mouse on his back. The mouse quickly nibbled the net with his sharp teeth and freed the deer. The deer was so happy and thanked his friends.
But then the hunter arrived! The friends had to hide quickly. The crow flew away, the mouse hid in a hole, and the deer ran deep into the forest. But the poor tortoise was too slow. The hunter found his net torn to pieces and the deer gone. He was angry, but he caught the tortoise and put it in his sack.
The deer, the crow, and the mouse came out from their hiding places. The mouse said, "Our poor tortoise has been caught. We must save our friend!" The deer had a clever plan. He said, "I will go and limp in front of the hunter. When he sees me limping, he will think I am injured and drop the sack to chase me. Then our mouse can cut the sack and free the tortoise."
The crow warned, "Be very careful! Don't let the hunter catch you again." The deer said, "Don't worry, I will be very alert this time."
The deer went ahead of the hunter and began limping. When the hunter saw the deer limping, he got excited. He dropped the sack with the tortoise and ran after the deer. While the hunter was chasing the deer, the mouse quickly nibbled through the sack and freed the tortoise. All the friends escaped safely!
The hunter came back and found neither the deer nor the tortoise. He had lost everything.
The moral of this story is that unity is strength. When friends work together and help each other, they can overcome any difficulty. Each friend used their special ability — the crow could fly, the mouse could nibble, the deer could run fast — and together they saved each other.
Now let us learn some important vocabulary. "Trapped" means caught in a trap. "Nibbled" means bit something. And "limping" means walking slowly because of an injured leg.
In this unit, we also learned about the weak forms of "of," "for," "or," and "but." These small words are usually spoken softly and quickly in a sentence. For example, "The national river of Pakistan is Indus." Or "The children are waiting for the school bus."
We also learned about common and proper nouns. A common noun names any person, animal, place, or thing. For example, boy, cat, mountain, and juice. A proper noun names a specific person, animal, place, or thing, and it is always written with a capital letter. For example, Hashir, Asia, Pakistan, and Amazon.
We also learned how to write informal invitations. When you invite a friend to an event, you should include the date, the receiver's name, the purpose of the invitation, the venue and time, and your own name at the end.
Let us do a quick recap. We read a story about four animal friends who saved each other from a hunter by working together. The moral is that unity is strength. We learned vocabulary like trapped, nibbled, and limping. We practised using "of," "for," "or," and "but" in sentences. We learned to tell the difference between common and proper nouns. And we learned how to write informal invitations.
Remember, always help your friends when they are in trouble, because together we are stronger! Thank you for watching!
