Revision Plan — Unit 5
A Nation's Strength
Subject: English | Class: 4 | Series: Leeds (SNC 2020)
Revision Duration
1 period (40 minutes)
Quick Recap — The Poem (10 minutes)
Poem by R.W. Emerson:
Not gold, but only men can make, A people great and strong;
Men who for truth and honour's sake Stand fast and suffer long.
Brave men who work while others sleep Who dare while others fly...
They build a nation's pillars deep And lift them to the sky.
Key Ideas:
- Gold (wealth) does NOT make a nation great and strong — only people do.
- Great people stand for truth and honour, and they endure suffering.
- Brave people work while others sleep and face challenges while others run away.
- These brave people build the nation's foundations (pillars) and raise them to the sky.
Activity: Teacher reads one line, students complete the next line from memory.
