The Lion King

Revision Objectives
- Retell the story from the lion's perspective and explain the theme.
- Use vocabulary correctly: resources, benefits, subjects.
- Identify three-letter consonant clusters in words.
- Sort letters into capital and small.
- Arrange words in alphabetical order (by first and second letter).
- Match masculine nouns with their feminine counterparts.
- Write sentences about a zoo visit or forest conservation.
Activity 1: Lion King Retelling (10 minutes)
Focus: Reading comprehension
- Ask students to imagine they are the lion king.
- In turns, each student says one sentence as the lion. Example sequence:
- "I am the king of the forest."
- "My kingdom was once very beautiful."
- "There were tall trees and many animals."
- "But humans came and destroyed the forest."
- "They cut trees and hunted animals."
- "Please help protect my kingdom."
- Discuss: Why is the lion angry? What should we do?
Activity 2: Vocabulary in Sentences (5 minutes)
Focus: Word meanings
Students create sentences using each word:
- resources (natural wealth) — "Forests have many natural resources."
- benefits (uses) — "Trees give us many benefits."
- subjects (animals ruled by the lion) — "The lion cares for his subjects."
Activity 3: Cluster Fill-In (5 minutes)
Focus: Three-letter consonant clusters
Teacher writes incomplete words on the board. Students fill in the cluster.
- ___imp (shr → shrimp)
- ___ash (spl → splash)
- ___aw (str → straw)
- ___one (thr → throne)
- ___een (scr → screen)
- ___ing (spr → spring)
- ___ool (sch → school)
Activity 4: Letter Sort Race (5 minutes)
Focus: Capital and small letters
Write 20 mixed letters on the board. Two teams race to sort them into Capital and Small columns. First team to finish correctly wins.
Activity 5: ABC Order Challenge (10 minutes)
Focus: Alphabetical order
Round 1 — Different first letters: Teacher gives five words (e.g., mango, apple, zebra, ball, orange). Students arrange them in alphabetical order.
Round 2 — Same first letter: Teacher gives four words starting with the same letter (e.g., bat, box, bed, bus). Students arrange by second letter.
Check answers together.
Activity 6: Gender Matching Game (10 minutes)
Focus: Masculine and feminine nouns
- Write masculine nouns on one set of cards and feminine nouns on another.
- Spread them face-down on a table or on the board.
- Students play a memory/matching game — turn over two cards at a time and try to match masculine with feminine.
Pairs: father/mother, brother/sister, fox/vixen, king/queen, nephew/niece, drake/duck.
Activity 7: Quick Write — Protecting Forests (5 minutes)
Focus: Writing
Students write three sentences about why forests are important and how we can protect them.
Activity 8: School Event Dialogue (5 minutes)
Focus: Oral communication
Students practise responding to a teacher's announcement:
- Teacher: "We are going on a field trip next Friday. Who wants to come?"
- Students volunteer and express interest.
- Practise saying: "Yes, I would like to participate" or "Me too, sir/miss."
