Video Script — Unit 6
The School Bus
Subject: English | Class: 2 | Series: Leeds (SNC 2020)
Hello, children! Welcome to today's lesson. Today we are going to learn about the school bus.
Do you use a school bus to come to school? Many children in Pakistan travel to school by bus. Let us learn more about school buses.
A school bus is a vehicle that picks and drops school children. The schools can own the bus or contract it. Most schools in our country use school buses for the convenience of students. Sometimes teachers also use the bus to come to school and go back home.
A school bus has sixty to seventy seats. Children use these seats to sit in. They place their bags on the shelf above the seats. The bus has a door and many glass windows. It also has a seat reserved for the driver.
Now let us talk about safety. Schools must follow some safety measures to keep children safe on the bus.
First, the school owner should hire experienced bus drivers. An experienced driver knows how to drive safely.
Second, the bus mirrors must have a broad field of view. This helps the driver see the students while picking them up or dropping them off.
Third, the school bus must have an emergency exit. This will help in case of any mishap or accident.
Fourth, the school owner should own or hire buses that are in excellent working condition. The bus should be well maintained.
These safety measures help keep children safe during their journey to and from school.
Now let us learn some vocabulary from this lesson.
The word "vehicle" means a means of transport. A bus is a vehicle.
The word "contract" means an agreement. A school can contract a bus from a bus company.
The word "measures" means ways or methods. Safety measures keep us safe.
The word "reserved" means set aside for a particular person. The driver has a reserved seat.
The word "convenience" means easy or comfortable. Schools use buses for the convenience of students.
In this unit, we also learned about consonant blends. A consonant blend is when two or three consonants come together in a word and each sound can be heard. There are initial blends and final blends.
Initial consonant blends come at the beginning of a word. For example: "st" in stop, star, and stall. "Br" in bring, brown, and break. "Tr" in trick, trace, and truck. "Sp" in spot, spin, and spoon.
Final consonant blends come at the end of a word. For example: "nd" in band, sand, and hand. "St" in best, rest, and nest. "Ng" in bring, sing, and wing. "Nt" in bent, dent, and sent.
We also learned about pronouns in two forms. The subjective case is when a pronoun is used as the subject of a sentence: He, She, It, We, They, You, I. The objective case is when a pronoun is used as the object: him, her, it, us, them, you, me. For example, "He likes her" — "He" is subjective and "her" is objective.
Let us quickly review what we learned. A school bus is a vehicle that picks and drops children at school. It has 60-70 seats, a shelf for bags, windows, and a driver's seat. Schools must follow safety measures like hiring experienced drivers, having broad mirrors, keeping an emergency exit, and using buses in good condition. We learned five vocabulary words. We practised initial blends (st, br, tr, sp) and final blends (nd, st, ng, nt). And we learned about subjective and objective case pronouns.
Remember, children — always be safe on the school bus. Stay seated, and follow the bus rules.
Thank you for watching, and see you in the next lesson!
