Revision Plan — Unit 5

The Brave Boys

Subject: English | Class: 2 | Series: Leeds (SNC 2020)


Revision Objectives

  • Retell the story "The Brave Boys" and understand the theme of bravery.
  • Recall vocabulary meanings (danger, heroic, really).
  • Use contractions of "be" correctly (I'm, He's, She's, They're, We're).
  • Read a calendar and answer questions about it.
  • Identify pronouns in sentences.
  • Write ordinal numbers (1st to 10th) in words.
  • Write number words from 1 to 50.
  • Seek permission politely.

Activity 1: Story Retelling with Pictures (10 minutes)

Focus: Reading comprehension

  1. Draw or describe five key scenes from the story on the board:
    • Boys playing cricket
    • Hearing a hue and cry
    • Rushing to the burning house
    • Boy carrying the old woman out
    • Principal congratulating the boys
  2. Students retell the story using the picture prompts.
  3. Ask: What makes someone brave? Can you think of a brave person you know?

Activity 2: Vocabulary in Context (5 minutes)

Focus: Word meanings

Teacher reads a sentence. Students identify which vocabulary word fits.

  1. The fire was a ______________ situation. (danger — troublesome situation)
  2. The boy's act was ______________ and bold. (heroic)
  3. It was ______________ a worthy act of bravery. (really — in fact)

Then students make their own sentences using each word.


Activity 3: Contraction Conversion (10 minutes)

Focus: Weak forms of "be"

Write full sentences on the board. Students rewrite using contractions.

  1. I am a student. → I'm a student.
  2. He is my friend. → He's my friend.
  3. She is playing. → She's playing.
  4. They are brave. → They're brave.
  5. We are in class two. → We're in class two.
  6. It is a cat. → It's a cat.

Then reverse: Teacher shows a contraction, students expand it.


Activity 4: Calendar Quiz (5 minutes)

Focus: Reading a calendar

Display a calendar for the current month. Ask rapid-fire questions:

  • How many days in this month?
  • What day is today?
  • What day was the 1st?
  • How many Fridays are there?
  • What is the last day of the month?

Activity 5: Pronoun Spotlight (5 minutes)

Focus: Pronouns

Teacher reads sentences. Students call out the pronoun.

  1. He is a doctor. (He)
  2. They are playing cricket. (They)
  3. We love our school. (We)
  4. She is my mother. (She)
  5. It is raining. (It)
  6. You are my friend. (You)
  7. I am happy. (I)

Then: Teacher says a noun. Students give the correct pronoun.

  • Ali → He, Sara → She, The cat → It, Ali and I → We, The boys → They

Activity 6: Ordinal Number Relay (10 minutes)

Focus: Ordinal numbers

  1. Write the numerals 1st through 10th on the board.
  2. Call students one at a time. Each writes the word form next to one number.
  3. Check together: first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth, tenth.
  4. Then play a game: "I am standing in a line. I am number 3. What is my position?" (Third)

Activity 7: Number Words Speed Write (5 minutes)

Focus: Writing numbers in words

Teacher calls out numbers. Students write them in words as fast as they can.

Call: 7, 12, 15, 20, 30, 40, 50, 25, 18, 33

Check answers together.


Activity 8: Permission Dialogue Practice (5 minutes)

Focus: Oral communication

Students pair up and practise new permission dialogues:

Student A: "Assalam-o-Alaikum! Can I use your colours?" Student B: "Wa Alaikum Assalam! Yes, you can, but please use them with care." Student A: "Thank you!" Student B: "You are welcome."

Swap roles and try with a different object (notebook, ruler, sharpener).
